Why I Still Love Hanging out with My Parents
If you know me, you know that even as a 29 year old, I still love hanging out with my parents on the weekends. I still love visiting with them, telling stories of new things that happen. I think a lot of it has to do with me not having FaceTime (I’m an avid Android user) and I also am not one to just pick up the phone and call all the time.
But one thing I’ve learned about myself is that I enjoy being WITH people. I enjoying being in your presence, seeing your face, hearing your laugh, putting a visual picture to a audible memory. A few things I love about my parents:
1. They do everything together.
They workout together, eat together, run errands together. They’re ALWAYS together. I think this is the most healthy expression of team that I have ever seen. Of course they don’t always agree and they get on each other’s nerves from time to time, but they still love each other and I enjoy seeing that up close.
2. They make each other laugh.
They always have some interesting story to tell and I love seeing them laugh and enjoy life. These are precious memories and moments I know I won’t always have forever so I’m intentional to create moments I want to remember. I want to remember my Dad making my Mom laugh. I want to remember my Mom dancing crazy in the kitchen. I want to remember how happy my Mom was to come up with some great recipe and cook it for people.
3. I know I won’t have them forever.
Death is a real thing and I honestly believe people don’t value life because they don’t understand death. If you really believed that you’re not promised tomorrow, wouldn’t you take the time to spend time with the people who matter most? I’m not going to live with regrets. I’m going to make the most of every day. I hope I can inspire others to do the same.
