Meeting John Henry

I randomly saw on John Henry’s stories that he was here in Arizona! I was nervous, and thought: Should I try to go? I probably can’t go because of my work schedule and meetings. But he’s HERE in SCOTTSDALE. That’s literally right in my neighborhood. I have to try to go. It’s too random and too much of a coincidence for me not to try.

I messaged him on Instagram hoping he would answer and he did! Apparently, he was in Arizona for only 6 hours on a first time speaking engagement to Humana Insurance agents. At first, he didn’t know exactly the name of the event and I couldn’t find it when searching. I wanted him to know that I wanted to buy a ticket and would love to come and support him but I couldn’t find the event publicly online ANYWHERE. When I say I looked, I mean I LOOKED.

I found one event hosted by Allstate Insurance called Hiring, Firing, and Everything In Between, but when I reached out to them they told him John Henry wasn’t speaking.

I told John the event I found and that it didn’t seem like it was the right one but that it was okay because I didn’t want to seem like I was nagging but I wanted him to know that I tried and that I was serious about going. More than anything, I wanted him to see how committed I was to showing support.

To my surprise, he wound up sending me a screenshot of his itinerary with the exact address of where he was speaking and the exact time that he was speaking at. WOAH! Now, I GOTTA go!!!!

I checked my work schedule and realized I could indeed go during lunch and see him speak. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

At this time it was 8am so I decided to get dressed and ready to leave so I could hop in my car and get there on time when it was time to go.

Y’all. Could this be for real? Am I really about to see John Henry in Arizona?!!! NO WAY.

What I Learned from John

The number one thing i was inspired to do after talking with John for the first time on my podcast was to build capital. I can’t invest in business or buy property if I don’t have capital. I definitely know how to save money and I don’t mind doing that. But, I want to get to a place where I don’t have rely on anybody else for my paycheck. There’s so much more I want to do and talking with John helped me see that you can be paid in exchange for value, not just time.

That’s where I’m headed. All because of this one conversation. Podcasting for me has been one of the most valuable, life-changing experiences.
